US government shutdown causes HTTPS certificates to expireJanuary 11, 2019
Secure websites has installed SSL certificates to identify each site and make secure connections, But they are deemed to renew in time period. What happened was some government sites failed to renew there certificates due to government shutdown. Several government sites are currently inaccessible or blocked by most browsers after their HTTPS certificate expired. With nobody available to renew them during the government shutdown, these sites are kicking back with warning errors.

In the government shutdown, everything non-essential stops. the responsibility of each department and agency to renew the certificate for their own domain. But the responsible persons are sent home , renewing a certificate might not be a top priority when they’re short staffed and overworked already.
